On April 27, 1945, the Second Republic of Austria was established — directly following the end of World War II and the fascist German regime. The post-war period brought massive changes to the everyday lives of Austrians. This was especially true for women, whose role in local politics increased during the occupation era — not least due to Soviet influence.
